Amino Acids
Vegans and vegetarians lack the essential amino acids, especially lysine and tryptophan. There are small amounts of lysine and tryptophan in plant based proteins hardly anything when compared to the larger amounts found in meat based diets, so it is important that vegetarians and vegans include these two essential amino acids in their dietary plan. A balanced vegatarian diet can be achieved but it must have a combination and variety of different foods to obtain the amino acids. BCAAs become even more significant for non-meat eaters because they cannot afford to lose the amino acids. They must replace the BCAAs lost during exercise with supplements because it is harder for them to get their amino‘s. Branch chain amino acids carry nitrogen which helps synthesize other amino acids to build cells and tissues. Since most amino acids are metabolized in the liver and BCAAs are not, they are unusual because they can be absorbed into brain easier. When the BCAAs enter the brain, they cause the central nervous system to have more energy. During normal bouts of exercise the brain receives the amino acid, tryptophan.Tryptophan helps synthesize serotonin, which causes fatigue in the central nervous system, thus slowing the athlete down. Serotonin is not all bad, it causes a feeling of well being. BCAAs do the exact opposite by fighting to get to the brain and balancing the levels of tryptophan received. This means that BCAAs really do create mental energy
